Are you searching for meaning?

the wayThe way.

I wonder if you’ve ever heard anyone say that life is a bit like a journey? It’s a fairly common way of looking at things, and it makes a lot of sense. From our earliest moments to our final breath, we’re all travelling through the experiences, challenges, and joys of life.

Most of us do the best we can as we travel: trying to find happiness; trying not to harm those around us. Most of us have dreams and hopes: of love; success; health; good relationships; peace; financial security; or something else. And almost all of us have some fears, too: of illness; loss; suffering; or pain.

Whatever your hopes, and whatever your fears, we are all trying to find the best way through this journey of life that we can. When we’re searching for a path, we really need directions: and the great news is that Jesus points us to the very best path that there is. “I am the way,” he says.

The truthThe truth.

As we search for the right paths, we do so in the midst of busy lives. In fact, we’re busier than ever before: the rise of connected technology has led to us being absolutely bombarded with stories, facts, communication, and news. Information overload can easily paralyze us: we become overwhelmed and don’t know how to respond.

It’s also increasingly difficult to know what’s real, and what isn’t. Improvements in Artificial Intelligence mean that we can never really know whether the video we’re watching, or the article we’re reading, or the online conversation we’re having, is real. We don’t know what the truth is, and we find it hard to trust what we see, hear, or read.

As we try to find the best ways to live, it would be great if we could know what’s true and what isn’t. The great news is that Jesus points us to the absolute truth of the universe. “I am the truth,” he says.

The lifeThe life.

As we journey through life, searching for the truth, what most of us are really hoping for is that we can live as well as we possibly can. It’s as though we know that, somehow, we’re going to be judged. Many people say something like “I’m not religious, but I do lots of good things, and I try to be kind, so I’m alright.” Yet, deep down, we know we’re probably not: we might do lots of good things, but we know that there are lots of bad things in our lives too. And we seem so helpless to change.

And here’s the amazing news. Jesus promises us life, and life to the full. He promises that he can forgive us for everything we’ve ever done, thought, or said that was wrong. He can transform us, so that every day we become more like the people that God made us to be. He can use us to transform others around us, too: as we follow him, the world we live in changes.

“I am the life,” he says. He’s offering that life to you right now: a life filled with hope, promise, forgiveness, healing, and adventure.

Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” If you want to know the best way, the whole truth, and the fulness of life in God, turn to Jesus now.

A prayer.

You might want to use this prayer – simply say the words (either out loud, or in your mind), and God will hear you.

Lord Jesus,
I accept that there are many things in my life which are wrong.
I have tried my best, but I’ve not followed your way.
I want to turn around and follow you.
Please forgive me for the ways I’ve gone wrong.
I want to give myself to you today and every day from now on.
Please come into my life and help me live for you.
Amen.

If you’ve prayed this prayer, please do let us know about it. We’d love to invite you along to church, where you can meet other people who are on this journey with Jesus. We’d love to give you a Bible, too, so you can find out more about him.
Come along next Sunday – 10.30am at the church – and let us know all about your journey.

New to church?

For most of us, life feels like a journey. Faith is a bit like a journey too, and coming along to church can be a really helpful way to get some guidance on the path. We'd love to meet you.

Why not just turn up on Sunday at 10.30am? You'll get a warm welcome. You don't need to wear anything special, or worry about feeling out of place. You won't be singled out, and you won't be asked to do anything you don't want to do. You can find out more about the services here.

We can't wait to meet you.
