Heroes of the Faith

Heroes banner
This sermon series will run until16th August 2026.

In this series we'll explore the lives, actions, and stories of eight Old Testament heroes, thinking together about how their lives and faith can impact our own. As usual, we'll update this page as the series unfolds with the sermons and other information which you may find helpful.

You can view the previous talks here (click on them to view the sermon, and to see study notes for small group use):

Abraham: Faith that obeys
Speaker: Dom Turner
Abraham was called by God to leave his land, his people, and his inheritance, and to journey into an unknown land in the hope that God would fulfil his promises. In this talk we explore God's call, Abraham's response, and our own response.
Joseph: Faith that endures
Speaker: Dom Turner
Joseph was a favourite son, and had dreams of greatness. But others conspired against him, and he was sold as a slave to an Egyptian family. His trials continued there, and in this sermon we look at what happened when a false accusation was made against him.
Moses: Faith that leads
Speaker: Dom Turner
Moses was elderly when he was called, and had spent half of his life living in exile and fear. He knew the plight of his people, but he'd messed up when he tried to help them. Yet God still calls and uses him.
Elijah: Faith that confronts
Speaker: Dom Turner
Elijah lived and ministered at a moment when the faith of God's people was under threat from outside influences. Even though he faced opposition from hundreds of false prophets, he had faith in the one true God. This sermon explores his faith as he confronts the false beliefs around him.
Deborah: Faith that inspires
Speaker: Peter Livey
Israel were facing an impossible battle, but Deborah's faith in God and His word inspired others to act in faith, too. How can we live out our faith in Jesus when so often the situations we face seem impossible?
David: Faith that Worships
Speaker: Dom Turner
David, Israel's most famous King, was an amazing man with incredible flaws. Throughout his life he was someone who understood how important it is to worship God. What does Psalm 145 teach us about his approach to worship, and how should it affect us today?

The rest of the series looks like this:

9th August Daniel: Faith that stands firm Daniel 6:10-24
16th August Esther: Faith that risks Esther 4:12-17
