What we Believe

The cross

Christ Church is a community of people seeking after God. Whatever you believe, if you're searching for something more, we'd love you to join us in that search. In our community there are people whose faith is deep and strong, and there are people who are completely unsure - and there are plenty of people in the middle, too.

What we do know is that God loves you, and wants you to be in relationship with him. He makes this relationship possible through Jesus.

Jesus came to be among us, and he was completely human, but also completely God. He was 'God incarnate' - in fact, one of his names is 'Immanuel', which means 'God with us'.

The reason he came is because people had got things badly wrong - God had created us to be in constant, loving, and worshipful relationship with him, but we turned away. The Bible talks about this turning away as being 'sin' - and it says that all of us have sinned, and none of us are capable of overcoming the consequences of that sin.

The trouble is that when we disobey God, we're turning our backs on the source of life, love, and holiness - and this means we're walking towards death, hatred, and destruction. This is what the Bible calls the 'wages of sin' - it's what we've earned.

But Jesus takes these wages onto himself. He dies in our place, on the cross. And he is raised from the dead, overcoming the power of sin and death, and giving us the chance to be free, to have life, and to know God. This is what it means to be a Christian - we put our faith and trust in Jesus, and ask him to save us, and to transform us.

If you'd like to find out more, or to ask questions or tell us why we're wrong, perhaps you'd like to come along to our next Alpha course? Or you could just turn up at church on a Sunday morning and say hi. If you're not sure, but just want a chat, do get in touch.

Our affiliations

Just in case you want to know our basis for faith, we are a Church of England church, and we subscribe to the Evangelical Alliance (and their basis of faith). We are also part of the New Wine Network, and we subscribe to their values.

Planning your Visit

New to church?

For most of us, life feels like a journey. Faith is a bit like a journey too, and coming along to church can be a really helpful way to get some guidance on the path. We'd love to meet you.

Why not just turn up on Sunday at 10.30am? You'll get a warm welcome. You don't need to wear anything special, or worry about feeling out of place. You won't be singled out, and you won't be asked to do anything you don't want to do. You can find out more about the services here.

We can't wait to meet you.
