Forty Days of Prayer and Fasting

We are calling the whole church to prayer and fasting.
November 10th - December 19th 2025.

Somebody praying
"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." (Psalm 27:14).
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9).

God is on the move in our nation. People are coming to Jesus, and the church is growing (see the 'quiet revival' report here, or watch this UK news report by Emily Maitlis). We're beginning to see exciting signs of this locally, with churches across Felixstowe (including Christ Church) experiencing growth.

We don't want to miss this move of the Spirit. If God is on the move in a new way, then we need to respond by listening to him, waiting for his vision for Christ Church, and then moving with focus and boldness into whatever he has planned for us here. Christ Church has a history of growth, with people over the years coming to know Jesus - indeed, our vision is "to know Christ more and make him known." How is God leading us in this next season?

In particular, we want everyone to wait on God, to ask him what he's saying to us, his people here, and to ask him how he's calling us on. As we do this, we can trust that God will speak.

Please be praying throughout this period, and sharing what you think God might be saying (you can contact us here). We want to encourage everyone to join in, and to commit to at least one weekly prayer meeting during this season. We are doing the following things together during this time:

Celebration services
At the beginning and end of this forty days season, we'll meet together to worship and praise, and to listen to God together. We'll start on 10th November with an evening of praise and celebration, and we'll end on 19th December by sharing together what we think God might have been saying to us during this period. Both evenings will start at 7:30pm.
10th November
19th December
Weekly 7:30pm regular prayer meeting
Our normal prayer meetings at the church, from 7:30pm. Everyone is invited as we wait on the Lord together.
Normally on Tuesday nights:
18th and 25th November.
2nd, 8th, and 16th December.
Weekly 7:00am prayer meeting on Zoom
We'll meet together for about half an hour from 7am on Zoom. To get the link for the meetings, please contact us here and ask for it.
Every Tuesday morning:
11th, 18th, and 25th November.
2nd, 9th, and 16th December.
Weekly 3:30pm prayer meeting
An afternoon prayer meeting for half an hour at the church each week.
On Thursday afternoons:
13th, 20th, and 27th November.
4th, 11th, and 18th December.
Weekly day of fasting together
A chance to fast together - either from food, or from something else, to deepen our prayer life during this time. See below for more details.
Every Monday during the season:
10th, 17th, and 24th November.
1st, 8th, and 15th December.

In addition to these gatherings, we are also asking that people fast on each Monday during the forty days of prayer. We recognise that not everybody will be able to do this. For those who can, please be sensible: if you're not used to fasting it might be best to miss one meal each Monday to start with, rather than trying to fast for the full day. If you have any health conditions that would make fasting from food unsafe, please don't put yourself at risk.

For those who want to join in with fasting, but can't skip meals for whatever reason, you could perhaps try fasting from something else instead: maybe you could stop watching TV, or going on social media, on those Mondays.

In the new year, the leaders will gather together to reflect and pray over everything that we may have heard as a community, to begin to discern the next steps for Christ Church.

Planning your Visit

New to church?

For most of us, life feels like a journey. Faith is a bit like a journey too, and coming along to church can be a really helpful way to get some guidance on the path. We'd love to meet you.

Why not just turn up on Sunday at 10.30am? You'll get a warm welcome. You don't need to wear anything special, or worry about feeling out of place. You won't be singled out, and you won't be asked to do anything you don't want to do. You can find out more about the services here.

We can't wait to meet you.
